What is omeprazole?

In the stomach, there are a series of cells that produce acid and inject hydrogen, which is the acidic agent, into the stomach. These cells are called hydrogen pumps. Omeprazole is a class of drugs that inhibit the hydrogen pump and do not actually allow the production of stomach acid. Other drugs in this category include pantoprazole – lansoprazole – robprazole – s omeprazole In addition to helping digestion, stomach acid is a protective factor against bacteria and viruses that enter the body through the digestive tract, so patients taking omeprazole capsules should be extra careful as it is one of the body’s defense lines. In contrast, external factors have decreased. Omeprazole is used in cases where stomach acid is rebellious and overproduced. It is also used in gastric reflux and treatment of Helicobacter pylori or to reduce gastrointestinal side effects of other drugs.
It is important to note that omeprazole can not neutralize the acid in the stomach, so it is not used for the rapid treatment of heartburn. Stomach pain is often confused with heart pain, so in cases of severe gastrointestinal pain, the patient should seek medical attention immediately.
Consult your doctor in case of severe liver defects due to the fact that the metabolism of the drug is hepatic (ie the drug changes in the liver).
Also, omeprazole should not be used if the stool is black or with blood and in cases of abnormal weight loss.
Long-term use of hydrogen pump inhibitors such as omeprazole can increase the risk of bone fractures.
Omeprazole along with several antibiotics may be prescribed by your doctor to treat stomach germs. In this case, you should take omeprazole as directed by your doctor and at specific times and avoid changing the time and amount of medication.
Omeprazole is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
Omeprazole should be taken one hour before a meal and before breakfast is the best time to take the drug. If the patient is unable to take the capsule, you can dissolve omeprazole in a tablespoon of water and give it to the patient immediately.

Uses of Omeprazole

Omeprazole is used in the treatment of benign gastric and duodenal ulcers, Helicobacter pylori ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, gastric acid reduction in surgery, and short-term prevention of gastric contents recurrence and treatment of the disease.
It can be used to treat indigestion and reflex disease, as well as to prevent and treat NSAID-related wounds.
In people who need chronic NSAIDs, the amount of omeprazole does not decrease after the wound has healed because there is a possibility that the wound may develop asymptomatically.
It may mask the symptoms of stomach cancer, and in high-risk people, they should be checked for stomach cancer before starting treatment.
This drug can be used to reduce the degradation of pancreatic enzyme supplements in patients with cystic fibrosis.
High doses of the drug are used to control gastric acid secretion in Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Mechanism of action of Omeprazole

Proton pump inhibitors inhibit gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the hydrogen-potassium adenosine triphosphate enzyme system in gastric mucosal cells.
