Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding Ketotifen:
Pregnancy: The use of this medicine should be done with the opinion of a specialist and with caution.
Breastfeeding: This drug may enter breast milk, so mothers treated with this drug should avoid breastfeeding.
Regarding the correct way to take the medicine, pay attention to these points
1- This medicine helps to prevent acute asthma attacks, but does not cure asthma.
2- In order to achieve therapeutic effects, take this medicine continuously.
3- Continue taking other anti-asthma medications as prescribed by your doctor.
4- You can take this medicine before or after food according to the doctor’s prescription.
5- The full effect of this drug in preventing asthma attacks usually appears a few weeks after starting to take the drug. During this period, the patient must be under the supervision of a physician.
6- If you forget to take a dose of medicine, take it immediately as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time to take the next dose, do not take that dose and avoid doubling the amount of medicine.
Ketotifen drug interactions
1- This drug may strengthen the effects of painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-allergic drugs and alcohol.
2- Concomitant use of this drug with oral blood sugar-lowering drugs may cause a reversible decrease in thrombocytes. Therefore, it is recommended to perform a platelet count test while taking it at the same time.
Precautions Ketotifen
1- During the treatment, visit the doctor regularly to control the improvement of the disease.
2- In the first few days of treatment with this drug, the body’s activities may be disturbed, and drowsiness and rarely a slight confusion may occur. Therefore, during treatment, avoid driving and working with devices that require alertness.
3- Sometimes symptoms of nervous irritation such as excitement, restlessness, insomnia and anger have been observed, especially in children.
4- The use of this drug in patients with epilepsy should be done with caution.
5- Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages with this medicine at the same time.
6- Every 5 ml of syrup contains 3.24 grams of carbohydrates, so it should be used with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus.
Ketotifen contraindications
1- History of allergy to any of the components of this medicine, including benzoates
2- In several cases, simultaneous use of this drug in patients treated with oral hypoglycemic drugs has caused a reversible decrease in platelet count. Therefore, simultaneous consumption should be avoided.
