What is Duphaston?
Duphaston tablets contain a drug called dydrogesterone. Diderogesterone is a synthetic hormone that is very similar to the “progesterone” hormone made by the body. Dofaston is used to treat diseases caused by a lack or deficiency of progesterone; Diseases such as menstrual disorders, painful menstruation, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), abnormal uterine bleeding as well as treatment of endometriosis and some infertility cases are controlled by Dofaston. This medicine can be used alone or in combination with estrogen. Another brand name for progesterone pills is Dofamed Pills.
Applications of Duphaston tablets
When the body does not produce enough progesterone and is deficient in progesterone;
To relieve and treat endometriosis (a disorder caused by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus);
To treat infertility due to progesterone deficiency;
To control irregular menstrual cycles;
To relieve the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS);
To treat amenorrhea and restart menstrual cycles that have stopped before menopause;
To stop or prevent unexpected heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding (often before the onset of menopause);
Replacing progesterone deficiency in pregnancy to treat spotting or bleeding from pregnancy or to prevent abortions, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy;
Another application of Dofaston 10 mg tablets is the treatment of menopausal symptoms (with hormone replacement therapy or HRT). Dofaston tablets are used alone or in combination with estrogen to treat menopausal symptoms.
How Dufaston works
As mentioned, Dofaston is used to treat problems caused by progesterone deficiency in the body. This hormone is normally produced in the ovaries from puberty to menopause. The synthetic progesterone in dofaston (dydrogesterone) replaces the deficiency of this hormone. In a woman’s body, progesterone is usually balanced against another female hormone called estrogen. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine along with estrogenic drugs to get the proper balance of hormones. Estrogen is an effective drug for treating menopausal complications, but for some postmenopausal women, taking estrogen alone can cause abnormal thickening of the lining of the uterus (endometrium). Taking Dofaston tablets as part of the menstrual cycle prevents the lining of the uterus from thickening.

The effect of Dofaston pill on pregnancy and lactation
The effect of Dofaston on fertility:
Does Duphaston cause pregnancy? There is no evidence of decreased fertility due to the use of dydrogesterone (found in Duphaston pills), but even in cases such as treatment of menstrual irregularities in polycystic ovary disease, treatment of progesterone deficiency in preventing recurrent miscarriages and improvement of luteal phase in treatments. Infertility may improve fertility in infertile women.
The effect of Dofaston on pregnancy:
To date, there has been no evidence that dydrogesterone is harmful during pregnancy. Studies have shown that children whose mothers used synthetic progesterone during pregnancy may be at risk for hypospadias (congenital defects in the penis of boys involving the opening of the urethra below normal) in children. That their mothers used synthetic progesterone during pregnancy. However, as there are many other factors that can cause this problem during pregnancy, there is no definitive conclusion about the role of dydrogesterone in the development of hypospadias. Clinical studies in a limited number of pregnant women treated with dydrogesterone in the first trimester of pregnancy showed no increased risk. No other epidemiological information is available so far. Even the manufacturer of this drug has suggested its use to treat cases of threatened abortion and to prevent abortion (recurrent miscarriage). Harmful effects of this drug have been seen only if taken in excess of the maximum allowable amount in pregnancy. As a result, dydrogesterone can be used during pregnancy if prescribed correctly by a doctor. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, talk to your doctor about the side effects and benefits of Dofaston.
The effect of Dofaston on breastfeeding:
Avoid dofaston if your baby is breast-feeding. There is no definite information about the transfer of Dofaston to breast milk and its effect on the baby, but studies on other progesterones show that small amounts are transferred to breast milk.
