Indications of codimal:
This drug is used to relieve pain and fever in the following cases: headache and migraine, fever and pain caused by colds and sinusitis, menstrual pain, toothache, muscle and joint pain, and pain after surgery.
Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding:
Pregnancy: Small or short-term doses of this drug do not seem to cause problems in the fetus or newborn, although taking larger amounts or for a long time increases the chance of problems. The use of this medicine is allowed during pregnancy with the doctor’s opinion.
Breastfeeding: This drug is secreted in breast milk and may cause unwanted side effects such as unusual excitement or irritability in the infant, while it may also reduce the flow of milk. Therefore, its use during breastfeeding is not recommended.
Regarding the correct way to take the medicine, pay attention to these points:
1- Use this medicine only according to the instruction of the drug guide, avoid taking amounts and times less or more than the recommended amounts in the drug guide sheet, unless the doctor has ordered it.
2- In order to reduce digestive irritation, take the medicine with food, a glass of water or milk.
3- If you forget to take a dose of medicine, take it immediately as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for the next dose, forget the missed dose and resume your normal schedule. Avoid doubling the amount of medicine.
Drug interactions of codimal:
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you are using the following medicines:
Long-term use of alcohol, drugs that induce liver enzymes and other drugs with hepatotoxicity – the risk of liver toxicity with long-term use of large amounts of acetaminophen may increase in alcoholics or patients who use other drugs with hepatotoxicity.
Long-term use of barbiturates (except butalbital) or primidone reduces the therapeutic effects of acetaminophen.
Coumarin anticoagulants or indanedione derivatives – simultaneous and long-term use of large amounts of acetaminophen may increase the anticoagulant effect.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin, and other salicylates – Concomitant and long-term use of acetaminophen with a salicylate and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may increase the likelihood of adverse renal effects.
Codimal precautions:
1- Consult your doctor in the following cases:
If you use this medicine for pain relief, the pain continues for more than 10 days (5 days for children) or it gets worse, or new symptoms and redness or swelling of the pain area develop.
If you use this medicine to reduce fever, if the fever continues for more than 3 days, or if it gets worse, or if new symptoms, redness and swelling develop. .
If you use this medicine for a sore throat, the sore throat becomes very painful and lasts for more than 2 days, or is accompanied by fever, headache, skin rash, nausea or vomiting.
2- Simultaneous use of this drug with other drugs containing acetaminophen may lead to poisoning.
3- Simultaneous use of some drugs with acetaminophen may increase the possibility of unwanted side effects. The amount of risk depends on the daily intake of each drug and the duration of their simultaneous use. If your doctor or dentist has prescribed the simultaneous use of these drugs based on a specific schedule. Follow his instructions carefully.
4- This medicine may affect the results of some medical tests. Therefore, in case of taking it within 3-4 days before the test, inform the doctor about taking this medicine.
5- Taking this medicine may cause false results in some blood sugar and urine tests. If you notice any changes in the test results, consult your doctor, especially if your disease is not under complete control.
6- In case of consuming large amounts of medicine, the patient should be immediately transferred to the emergency medical center. Symptoms of acetaminophen poisoning may appear 2 to 4 days after taking the drug, but in order to prevent liver damage or death, treatment must be done within the first 24 hours of drug poisoning.
Codimal Contraindications:
1- History of allergy to acetaminophen or any of the components of this medicine
2- Simultaneous use with other products containing acetaminophen
