Within numerology, there exist five core numbers that act as the building blocks of who you are and what you will become.
Using some of the most important dates in your life, a numerologist can give you amazing insight from the numbers-based analysis.
That’s what Emma Loewe discovered when she went for her first numerology reading.
Like many who have never experienced numerology, Emma went into her reading with a degree of skepticism. However, they quickly melted away as her reading revealed more about her character than she realized it would.
It all started when she gave her birth date and full name to her numerologist. Using those numbers, she discovered she had a life path number of 8. This means that she’s a born leader who’s able to take control of situations.
Emma felt a little confused at first as she considers herself a more passive person. But as her numerologist worked through her core numbers, she found out how everything fit together. While she has leadership qualities, the 2s that she has in personality and expression numbers show that she finds it hard to say no to others.

We’ve mentioned a few core numbers in that short story. Here, we’re going to dive deeper into what each of these numbers mean to you.
The Five Core Numbers
The five core numbers are as follows:
1. The life path number
2.The birthday number
3. Your expression number
4. Your personality number
5. Your soul urge number
Each one shows you something different about who you are. We’re going to use a specific example to illustrate these numbers as there’s too much detail about each one to cover in a single article.
The goal here is to help you understand how numerology dates and core numbers can impact your life.
Core Number #1 – The Life Path Number
Many consider this to be the most important number in all of numerology. Making use of your birth date, your numerologist creates a map of what’s going to happen in your life.
You can think of it as a blueprint. Your life path number influences the challenges that you’ll encounter in life. It also impacts the opportunities that you’ll have. The number encapsulates who you are and how your character will affect what you do in life.
Unlike some of the other numerology numbers, your life path number never changes. It’s set in stone for your entire life.
You can use a simple calculation to determine your number. For example, let’s say that your birthdate is October 13, 1992.
First, you reduce the month to its numerical form of 10.
Add the 1 and 0 together to end up with the number 1.
Then, you add the numbers in your birthday together. In this case, that means 1 + 3 = 4.
This leaves us with numbers 1 and 4.
The birth year is a more complex number as you need to keep adding numbers until you end up with a single-digit number. In this case, the process would be:
1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21
2 + 1 = 3
Finally, you add all of the numbers together to get your life path number:
1 + 4 + 3 = 8
In this case, we have an 8. As we learned earlier, this means that this person has natural leadership qualities. However, the other core numbers may affect how those qualities manifest. But so far, it’s likely that our example will experience good luck in her career.
Core Number #2 – Your Birth Day Number
From the most important core number, we shift to what may be the least important.
The first thing to remember here is that your birthday and birth date numbers are two different things. With your birthday, you’re simply looking at the day on which you were born.
In our above example, that would be 13.
Your birthday number reveals a talent that you possess that will come into play at some point on your life path. Your destiny was to be born on this day and the number you have will play a role in your life.
Those born on the 13th have the ability to concentrate intensely. While this can help them in life and work, it can also hinder them. Strong concentrators are at risk of overworking themselves because they get drawn into what they’re doing.
This example offers some insight into how your special talent can impact your life in several ways. Overworking yourself could lead to you facing challenges related to health and family. However, being able to maintain your focus could also lead to a successful career.
Core Number #3 – The Expression Number
You could say that your life path number charts the lessons that you’ll learn throughout your life. It also gives you some insight into how you’ll handle them.
Your expression number helps you to determine the natural strengths and weaknesses that you have. This, in turn, has an influence on your life path. Emma discovered this when she found that her expression number of 2 leads to a natural passivity.
Numerologists determine this number using the letters in your full name. Each letter of the alphabet has a corresponding number between 1 and 9. You can see the full chart here.
The calculation is much more complex for this one. It involves assigning numbers to each letter in your first, middle, and last name. You then reduce these numbers until you reach your expression number.
Let’s assume that the name of the person in our example is Kelsey Anne Jacobs.
Here are the calculations that we’ll run through:
First Name

2 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 5 + 7 = 23
2+ 3 = 5
Middle Name
Anne
1 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 16
1 + 6 = 7
Last Name
Jacobs
1 + 1 + 3 + 6 + 2 + 1 = 14
1 + 4 = 5
The Final Calculation
5 + 7 + 5 = 17
1 + 7 = 8
The expression number of 8 shows that this is a very competitive person. They have the potential to achieve amazing things if they can maintain their discipline.
Think about how this expression number applies to the other numbers so far. We have a born leader who has a talent for maintaining their focus. This person may achieve great things if they can stay disciplined. Their special talent feeds into this destiny, which means this person is very likely to become a leader in whatever field they choose.
At least, so far. We now need to examine the personality number.
Core Number #4 – The Personality Number
This represents the first impression that you give to people. In other words, these are the aspects of your personality that you want people to see. You don’t hide them behind a mask.
Your personality number will help you to discover if you’re an introvert or an extrovert. It shows how willing you are to open yourself up to others.
To determine this number, you use only the consonants in your name. We also use the same chart that we used to calculate the expression number.
Let’s come back to our example of Kelsey Anne Jacobs.

The Final Calculation
4 + 1 + 7 = 12
1 + 2 = 3
Those with a personality number of 3 tend to have a certain charm or charisma about them. They’re often physically attractive people and have outgoing personalities.
Things are looking even better for our example. It appears that she has the personality traits that will bring out her leadership skills. Her natural charisma will help her to achieve the ambitious goals that she sets for herself.
Core Number #5 – The Soul Urge Number
This number determines what you really want out of your life. It helps you to figure out the reasons behind the choices that you make.
With our example, it could be that her heart’s desire doesn’t lie in becoming a successful leader. As such, this number influences the blueprint found using her life path number. It will also determine the decisions that she makes in her relationships.
This one uses the vowels in the person’s name. Here are the calculations for our example.

1 + 6 + 3 = 10
1 + 0 = 1
In this case, our example has a huge desire to maintain her independence. She dreams of achieving prominence in her field, which plays right into her life path number. Our example has natural confidence and intelligence that drives her to achieve more.

Our example of Kelsey Anne Jabobs appears to have all of the tools to achieve great things. Her life path number marks her out as a natural leader. All four of her other core numbers show that she has the tools to overcome the challenges she’ll face.
She also has the confidence to grasp any opportunities with both hands.
