Sometimes clients ask me what their purpose is. They wonder if they’re supposed to do something specific with their lives. I receive all kinds of answers from spirit guides, but there is one answer I’ve found that applies to everyone: you are here to Remember.
What Happened When You Were Born…
When you were born, you came as pure awareness, completely innocent. You didn’t have knowledge, but you had a sense of yourself as being inherently wonderful and connected to everything. As you grew old enough to focus your attention on words, your parents began teaching you about yourself and the world. They taught you what was right or wrong with you, your emotions, and how they expected you to be. You learned to take the universe apart and categorize things as good, bad, right or wrong.
As you adopted the belief system given to you, you began the Process of Forgetting. You forgot your true nature. You had no choice but to believe the adults when they said you were flawed — too sensitive, too obnoxious, too wild, too emotional — and you may have spent years struggling to hide or make up for these deficiencies.
Remembering What You Have Lost
Today, you suffer because you’ve lost something precious and you don’t know what it is. What you have lost is the awareness of yourself as an expression of Divinity. You know yourself to be flawed, you judge yourself the way you were judged as a child, and it hurts.
When the pain of self-rejection becomes unbearable, many of us go on a spiritual quest to wake up and remember who we are, although we seldom know what we are searching for. We find spiritual teachers, read books, and search for answers to restore that sacred knowing of our perfection.
If you are able to recover the truth of your Divinity, and really embrace it, knowing with every part of yourself that you are okay the way you are, you’ll awaken from the machinery of childhood domestication and look down at the perfection of your life from a high place.
The process of forgetting and remembering is a common theme in stories, myths and legends. Adam and Eve were banished from the garden because they gained the knowledge that made them judge themselves and feel guilty. Knowledge always casts you from paradise, because once you learn to judge what you see according to the prevailing perception of your parents, community, culture and society, you suffer when you experience things that go against that belief system.
Of course, acquiring knowledge is necessary, because only through learning (and simultaneously forgetting), can you ever find that precious place of remembering. Remembering the truth of your innocence and Divine perfection is the most wonderful awakening.
The Truth Of Your Divinity
The truth of your Divinity carries within it another truth — that there is only One Thing here. You are not just you. You are Everything. You are the planet. You are the universe. You are God. And this is the awareness that has the power to free you from every mental or physical prison that exists. You are timeless, and there are no prisons.
We are all made up of the same vibrating energy. This One essence is manifesting as every conceivable form there is. The reason it goes to sleep and forgets itself within each human, is so that it can wake up inside the human and experience the joy of rediscovering itself. As Love! As Life!
Each of us, in our own way, searches for what we’ve lost. In the story of King Arthur, Arthur forgets his true nature and his connection with everything, and the land withers and dies. His knights go on the ultimate search for the Holy Grail, the answer that will restore him to the truth of his connection with everything.
The truth revealed is the same for each of us:
You are The One. You are The Divine. There is no separation. When you stop suffering, the world gets closer to happiness because you are the world. When King Arthur remembers this truth, he is able to fulfill his destiny as King.
You are the King or Queen of your life and the master of your inner world. Remember the truth of your perfection, and recover your ability to be who you were born to be: you. Not the you that wears masks and hides herself from other people because she learned she isn’t enough — the you who showed up on day one, an innocent, perfect manifestation of God.
Everything you do on your search is a step along the way to remembrance. Books, words, journeys, even simple meditation brings you closer to remembering what you’ve forgotten.
Sometimes you’ll notice you’re awake, and sometimes you’ll notice you’ve fallen asleep again. Your best destiny and purpose is to fall asleep, forget, wake up, remember, and fall in love with yourself — the One Thing here — over and over again. Many blessings on your journey!
With Love,
Jessica
