Essential oils have been in my life the past few years, and I absolutely love them! They are potent extractions from magical plants, offering their harnessed energies. And they are powerful because they can alter our state of being, elicit memories and even attract certain spirits. They carry the energy imprint of plants, so we can align with them for healing and transformation.
Your Essential Oils Mini-Dictionary
Here is a listing of some essential oils and their magical properties….
Frankincense – This is one of the highest vibrating scents, and my personal favourite! It can be used for purification and protection, including in ceremonies and rituals. It helps us to relieve depression and improve general emotional well-being. It spiritually elevates us, and is good to use during meditation.
Frankincense corresponds to the Sun, the Divine Masculine and the archetype of the King. I like to use this scent in conjunction with myrrh during Christmastime.
It is also great for the skin and has anti-aging properties.
Myrrh – Another holy oil and a counterpart to Frankincense, this plant is ruled by the Moon and corresponds to the Divine Feminine and the Queen archetype. Like frankincense, it can be used for purification and protection.
This is a healing scent, and it can ground and soothe us in times of sorrow or crisis. It can be used for funeral rites, as it protects the souls of the dead on their journey beyond this world, and comforts those who are in grief over their loss.
Myrrh is sacred to Hathor and Isis, so you can use this scent as an offering to them.
Jasmine – This soft and sensual scent links to the Moon, and can be used for love or money magic. Wear this scent to attract a lover. It helps us to sleep, and connects us to the astral realm and a sense of magic.
You could use this scent as an offering to goddesses Yemaya and Lakshmi.
Rose – The highest vibrating of all scents! This is the flower of Venus. It opens the heart and connects us to the energy of love. This is great to use during women’s moon time to soothe frazzled emotions.
Lavender – Lavender is a cure-all and has so many benefits! It is known to help with sleep and to have a calming effect, but it actually helps with all sorts of ailments. It even helps with acne, and I use it as a spot treatment.
It is also purifier. The word “lavender” comes from the verb “lavare”, which means “to wash”.
It links to Mercury and the element of Air, so it can be used to draw air elemental beings.
Neroli – It is said that the scent of neroli draws angels and their heavenly assistance.
Neroli is comforting yet delightful, and lends us a sense of romance and luxury. It’s a flower of blissful matrimony and a happy home, so it would be good to use in a married couple’s nest. It is beautifying, and can be used on the skin for anti-aging.
Juniper – This is a purifying and protecting scent. It even helps with cleansing your energy field, so it is great for empaths who “pick up” other people’s energies.
Geranium – Similar to rose, it vibrates to the energy of love and is great for women to use during their moon time. It also helps to balance womens’ hormones.
Sandalwood – A scent of the Divine Masculine. Sandalwood is great to use during meditation. It is also beautifully grounding and sensual.
Patchouli – An earthy scent of the Divine Feminine. Women can use it to attract a mate, for womb healing, or to heal any sexually-related trauma. It is also great for money magic, and is a scent linked to goddess Lakshmi.
Ways to use essential oils:
1. Buy a diffuser
Using a diffuser is a great way to spread the power of scents in your room.
Some recommendations for your diffuser…
Use jasmine, neroli and bergamot for a soothing and beautifully sensual atmosphere.
Use jasmine to help you sleep at night.
For women, use rose and/or geranium for “moontime” relief.
2. Make a spray bottle
Get a plastic or (preferably) glass bottle, some witch hazel or alcohol, and some drops of your chosen oil/s.
Recommendations for your spray bottle…
A lavender spray can be used for multiple things. For example, I use it as a hand sanitiser, and to clean some of my crystals.
Put equal parts lavender, frankincense, juniper and rosemary together for a cleansing and protecting aura spray.
3. Use with a carrier oil
Many essential oils are irritating if put directly on the skin (with the exception of lavender). Use a carrier oil for the face and/or body (I am partial to jojoba).
Recommendations…
- My favourite body oil blend is jojoba with jasmine and orange- yum!
- Put argan oil and frankincense together for a nourishing concoction for your face!
- Use a carrier oil with lavender and rub this blend on your feet at bedtime to help you sleep.
4. Put in a bath
Add essential oils to your bath to give it a special quality
Recommendations…
- Peppermint oil is great for soothing tired, achy muscles.
- Take a Venusian bath and put some rose oil in. Add some rose petals and candles, too.
- Use lemon, lavender and rosemary if you are fighting a cold or just want some purification.
