I never wanted to meditate. For years I heard how healthy it was, and I didn’t care. The whole concept seemed boring to me, and I had no patience to sit around and try to quiet my thoughts, which seemed impossible. Then a psychic colleague of mine told me about the fascinating insights he would get every morning while meditating. I noticed how peaceful, grounded, and centered he seemed even during tumultuous periods. And so, after years of rebelling against meditating, I decided to try it.
I learned that the object of meditation is NOT quieting your mind. It’s simply to check in with yourself and notice your thoughts. It’s noticing your breath, how your body is feeling, and sometimes doing guided visualizations to help release old, stagnant energy in your body. It took a very short period of time — perhaps a week — before I began to notice that things were changing for me.
I noticed more. I felt more peaceful. My relationship with spirit guides deepened, and I began using meditation to get clear messages from them. I was able to understand them without confusion or strain.
5 Minutes Is All It Takes
You don’t need to have any special abilities to meditate. All it takes is five minutes — though ten is better. Go to a place where you won’t be disturbed. If you have small children who need your attention, do this while they’re sleeping — perhaps before you go to bed. You can make it fun by lighting a candle or burning incense. You can also listen to soft music to help your mind get into a calm and relaxed state. You can find a variety of meditation tracks featuring rain and bells or other calming sounds on YouTube.
How To Get Started – A Simple Guided Meditation
Sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes, and put your awareness on your body. If you’re listening to the sounds of rain, you can imagine that you are walking in the rain, and as you walk, the rain is washing away all stress, discomfort, and anything else you don’t want to hold onto.
Here’s a simple guided meditation you can do that should take about five minutes. With your eyes closed, imagine that the chair you are sitting in is really a stump in the forest. Imagine that radiant, honey amber liquid is traveling up from the earth, through the stump, and into your body. Let it fill you entirely. Allow your cells to release any old, stagnant energy into the honey amber liquid. When you feel that this is complete, let the honey amber drain right back down through your body, into the stump, and deep into the earth, taking with it any fatigue, stress, fear or toxins. Then imagine that your spirit guides or guardian angels are pouring basins of light on top of your head from above, and imagine the light filling you up until your entire body is filled with light.
A guided meditation like this allows your mind to fixate on a goal so that you don’t have to be driven crazy by random and uncontrollable thoughts. You might also look for guided meditations on YouTube to get you started and see what resonates with you.
Receiving Messages From Your Spirit Guides Via Meditation
Would you like to receive messages from spirit guides in your meditation? Again sit comfortably, close your eyes, and imagine walking into a golden elevator. Allow the elevator to take you as high as it can. When the doors open, imagine entering a beautiful room that’s all yours — a safe place just for you where you can receive visitors. Using your imagination, decorate it any way you like, with furniture, curtains, pillows, plants, whatever you need to feel comfortable and happy.
Ask your guides to enter the room and see who shows up. Ask questions and listen back for answers. Of course, it can take practice to “see” and “hear” in this way, so be patient with yourself. If you would like to experience a free meditation to meet your spirit guides, you get one as a gift when you sign up to be on my mailing list here at the link in my bio below.
Don’t meditate because you think you have to, or because you think you should. Do it, instead, knowing that it’s a powerful way of nurturing your mind and body, and get ready for your experience of life to shift for the better.
