Consuming food and drinks is a big part of our lives. It is something we do everyday which is so powerfully influential on our state of being. This is a seemingly mundane activity which can actually be quite sacred and magical, if consciousness is brought in. Here are three tips on how to do that…
1. Gratitude Prayer
When we eat a meal, we are taking in valuable nourishment. Life has been given so that it may sustain us- even with plant-based ingredients. And energy is also given by numerous people, whose efforts have contributed to bringing these foods to our plates.
Saying a prayer in thanks to all of this is a practice in consciousness and gratitude. And gratitude is an excellent practice for bringing more abundance into our lives! This is a beautiful way to send thanks and love to the Earth and others- including those you may not have even met.
Here is a prayer that I use:
I thank the lives that were given to help sustain my life.
And the people whose energy, time and efforts went into the production and preparation of this food.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Blessed be to all.
And so it is.
Sometimes (okay, often) I do an abbreviated version of this when I am hungry:
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Blessed be to all.
And so it is.
If you’d like, feel free to create your own prayer that feels suitable for you.
2. Ask Yourself How Certain Foods Make You Feel
Many of us are usually unaware of the effect of food on our feelings, mood, body and energy. After eating a meal or a particular ingredient, take a moment to check in.
How does the food feel in your body? For example, do you feel dirty, tired, centered or comforted? Is there a place in your body where you are most feeling its effects? Is it in your head, your heart, your solar plexus? Are you feeling a certain emotion or mood? There are some general shared responses, but people respond to certain foods in different ways. Tune in and become aware, and use these findings for future reference.
3. “Charge” Your Food and Drinks
As human beings, we truly are powerful conduits of energy. With a visualization and intention, you can infuse your food and drinks with such energies as love, joy, abundance, etc.
To do this, first take a moment to center yourself in whichever way you’d prefer. You could simply take one or more breaths. Another option is visualising that you are like a tree with roots below your feet going deep into the earth, with branches that stretch above your head reaching the heavens, and also focusing on the heart area to drop your awareness into it and activate it.
Then with the palms of your hands facing the food or drink, conjure up the feeling of your chosen intention. If it helps, think or say the word or bring up images that relate to the intention. This does not have to take long to do, but also make sure that it is not too short. Feel into and choose for yourself the appropriate amount of time to charge your food/drink. Then, consume. Voila, magic!
