Have you seen the signs and messages…
Going through life unaware, most of us miss the signs and messages that are unfolding all around. Sometimes these messages are loud and clear…
These messages are startling enough to get your attention, and other times they are subtle. A chance encounter, a conversation or serendipitous event leaves you with a keen sense of something… pull at that thread and find-out more.
Returning from running some errands, I parked my car and stepped onto the sidewalk. To my dismay at my feet was a dead bird with oily black feathers that shone iridescent in the sunlight. Saying a silent prayer I made my way into the house, but the impression of that bird stayed with me.
A few hours later while talking on the phone a gleam of light from under the sofa caught my eye. I stood up to get a better look. Wondering what could be under there. I crept closer, and then kneeled down to pull something from the dark space. It was an oracle card… The Birds.
Finding this piqued my interest. The second bird encounter in one day. How did that card find its way under the sofa? Something was trying to get my attention. In the spirit of curiosity I wrote down my encounters knowing that if there was a message the puzzle pieces would come together soon enough.
That evening I decided to write at a café in my neighborhood. Taking my seat on a large leather sofa. I sat for a moment, but something felt off so I traded spots for the leather sofa next to me. Opening my journal I began writing. Musing on the day. Jotting down my feelings. Dreaming up new ideas. When suddenly I heard a noise. A fluttering. A whoosh. Then a loud thud.
Looking over to the couch next to me, where I had been sitting moments before, were two birds stunned and panting. One took off flying around the café stirring up the room with shrieks and confusion. The other bird just sat there on the sofa, wings fluttering, cooing… going nowhere.
A bird falling from the sky in a café on a random evening is always an odd occurrence. Encounters like this grab your attention, no matter who you are! Coupled with the other bird encounters from the day I knew a message was being revealed. What messages did these birds have for me?
Birds are often messengers. They symbolize our sense of freedom and expression. Birds remind us to use our voice, to share our song and to reach for the sky. People around the world have felt the presence of a loved one come in the form of a bird. Old superstitions say that circling birds are a warning of something to come. Or, a bird trapped in the house is a portent of death.
These encounters didn’t feel ominous. I didn’t sense any impending danger. Rather, I felt this was a call to action. A reminder to use my voice, speaking my truth and sharing my feelings. If thoughts and feelings are kept caged inside it becomes disorienting, even deadly. Truth needs to be brought into the light of day.
I began to ponder how I might be holding back my feelings.
What did I need to say?
How could I be more open and honest?
I knew I had been avoiding a difficult conversation with someone dear to me. My thoughts and feelings were heavy, and without saying anything they were sure to turn into resentment. I needed to break the silence and face the fact that this conversation was more necessary… choosing silence would only cause me to slip deeper into feelings of confusion and despair.
I needed this message. I needed to the universe to push me a little… to do what I knew deep inside needed to be done!
Maybe the Birds have a message for you. So I encourage you to take a look at your own life to see what you are expressing and engaging with:
- Are you engaging in conversations that raise you up, empower you and make you feel expansive?
- Or, are you feeding negativity and lowering your vibration with gossip, conflict or conversations that leave you feeling drained?
- Do you feel caged up, unable to fly in the direction of your dreams and desires?
- Do you know the sound of your authentic voice… the voice of your soul?
Journal on these questions and open yourself to receiving the answers. Birds wont always fall from the sky to get your attention. But there’s always something happening around you offering a little more clarity on your journey… just open yourself up and pay attention!
What strange encounters have you experienced? What did you learn from it?
